Emerging food and beverage growth opportunities in New Zealand
New opportunities in the food and beverage industries are the focus of the Emerging Growth Opportunities in New Zealand Food & Beverage Report 2018, which will be launched at FoodHQ as part of the New Zealand Agrifood Week.
The report will be officially launched by the Hon. David Parker, Minister for Economic Development, on Wednesday 14 March. Key findings and the state of the food and beverage industry will be presented by Tim Morris, Director of consulting company Coriolis, which authored the report.
FoodHQ Chief Executive Dr Abby Thompson says the report looked at a wide range of New Zealand food and beverage exports and identified several areas with significant potential for development – chocolate bars and blocks, fresh cherries, breakfast cereals, muesli bars and flavoured beverages.
“New Zealand’s economy was built on producing and exporting food and beverage products. We know international markets demands are changing, and it is important to identify areas that have the potential to further grow our exports in the coming years,” she says.
“The report has identified areas where we take advantage of our reputation for high-quality produce, our culture of innovation in food, and our geographic location, which lets us supply out of season products to the northern hemisphere.
“It highlights potential strategic directions for our food and beverage industries, and opportunities for further investment.”
Dr Thompson says the launch has been made possible by the support of ANZ and AgriHQ.
The launch will be held on Wednesday 14 March from 11.30am to 1.00pm. Following the launch there will be an invitation-only panel discussion about food innovation in the region. The panel includes Tim Morris from Coriolis; the Chair of the Industry Advisory Panel for the report, Sam Robinson; Phil Edmonds from AgriHQ; Mandy Armstrong from Landcorp; Megan Sinclair from Whittakers and MC Rob Simcic from ANZ.
The report was completed by Coriolis. It was commissioned by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) with support from New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
