Antipodes Water Judged World’s Best
The New Zealand Beverage Council (NZBC) today congratulated NZBC member Antipodes Water Company for winning the gold
medal for their sparkling water at this week’s 28th Berkley Springs International Water Tasting and Awards.
NZBC Communications and Engagement Manager Stephen Jones says the Berkley Springs Water Awards are the Olympics of
bottled water, and it is an astonishing achievement by a small New Zealand-owned company to be recognised with the
supreme award in sparkling water.
Antipodes were also awarded in the best packaging category.
“Antipodes went up against nearly 100 other brands from five continents with their sparkling water, which they source
and bottle in Whakatane, and were judged to be producing the world’s best,” says Stephen.
“This is a true New Zealand success story. Antipodes have invested into a product they believed in, worked incredibly
hard, taken risks, built their brand, taken it out into the world and have succeeded.
“Antipodes’ award is also recognition that New Zealand is producing some of the finest bottled water in the world and
these types of awards help promote the country’s environmental image worldwide, strengthening brand New Zealand.
“While the bottled water industry is often misunderstood, huge amounts of investment and care is undertaken to source
quality water and ensure its purity. This is not an easy process.
“New Zealand is producing a premium product on a small scale and this product is in demand around the world. The
industry has the potential to grow, earning important export dollars for New Zealand and bringing jobs into the regions,
where bottled water producers are located,” says Stephen.
The Berkley Spring International Water Tasting and Awards were held in West Virginia and is the worlds’ longest running
and most respected water awards.
