Airbnb's record night in New Zealand on NYE
This New Year's Eve was a record night for the Airbnb community in New Zealand, with more than 31,200 guest arrivals
occurring in Airbnb listings in New Zealand - which is double the population of Queenstown and smashes the previous
night record.
Between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, more than 163,600 guest arrivals occurred in New Zealand Airbnb listings - 67,300
more than the same time in 2016.
This record night is not only a sign of the continued growth and popularity of the Airbnb community in New Zealand, but
a sign of just how important Airbnb has become for New Zealand in accommodating major surges in demand around big events
or nights.

Airbnb’s. It is further proof Kiwi’s and travelers are overwhelming voting with their feet and embracing a more
authentic, sustainable kind of travel.
Every extra visitor staying in an Airbnb is one more person spending in local cafes, bars or shops. This tourism boom is
good for locals, good for small business and good for local communities.
Importantly, this tourism boom and record night reinforces the need for fair and progressive rules for home sharing in
New Zealand. The very last thing you would want to do is jeopardise this growth and the local jobs it is creating with
onerous red tape. We want to work with government on innovative rules for home sharing and explore how we would further
turbocharge the local tourism industry.
