Healthy Food Guide Magazine Awards Announced
The best and worst of health food products for 2018 have been decided in the annual Healthy Food Guide magazine Awards.
This year saw a record number of entries from a wide range of food brands across 16 award categories, according to Healthy Food Guide magazine editor Jenny de Montalk.
“Demand for healthier food products continues to grow and is spurring a lot of innovation by food producers. This provides consumers with so much more choice, which is fantastic for those of us who love food,” Ms de Montalk says.
Some areas of noticeable growth include vegetarian and vegan products, paleo, gluten free, yoghurt and fermented foods. And there are some truly excellent products on the market.
“One thing that was quite interesting for us was our Best Dairy category winner Anchor Protein+ plain yoghurt was the very same product that was the recipient of a negative food marketing award recently. We obviously had a difference of opinion on that one. Probably because our criteria are based on the nutrition profile of a product, as well as value for money and how it tastes, rather than just how it’s marketed.
“We did, however, have plenty to choose from for our hall of shame. Each year we highlight products using the ‘health halo’ marketing effect to seem healthier than they really are, and there was no shortage of contenders.”
The first Healthy Food Guide magazine Awards were in 2009.
