CMD Printing looks to minimise environmental impact in business
Albany based printing company – CMD Print Solutions, are making a company wide effort to reduce both plastic and paper waste.
“Being in the industry for over two decades, we are well aware of the misinformation surrounding paper production and
printing”, says CMD Print Solutions Director, Danny van der Velde.
“Because of these misconceptions, we believe it is important to not only educate the public about some of the realities
of the industry, but also, as a company, practicing what we preach”.
A lot of people’s hostility towards the printing industry comes from the initial process of paper production and the raw
material used – trees.
“Not only is a large percentage of the paper we use recycled, but we partner with NZ’s most reputable paper supplier, Spicers – New Zealand’s most environmentally friendly paper merchant”.
Spicers is the only paper merchant in New Zealand to obtain Enviro-Mark Gold certification and are the only supplier
with PEFC™ and FSC® chain of custody accreditation, which allows them to supply paper with these strict
guaranteed-origin labels.
Building upon their sustainable product offering, CMD Print Solutions also strives for sustainability throughout their
day-to-day business operations, with an emphasis on minimising plastic waste.
“As a company, we take plastic waste very seriously”, stresses van der Velde.
“For our packaging material, we use paper as much as possible and reuse said packaging multiple times”.
CMD Print Solutions also do not offer plastic bags to their customers and employees have taken to using their own
takeaway cups for coffees and even their own Tupperware containers for their sushi lunches!
