Trimble wins the Supreme Excellence category at the 2017 NZ Spatial Excellence Awards
An application for mobile devices that brings high accuracy measurement into the mainstream has won the highest accolade
at the 2017 New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards Gala Dinner held tonight at Te Marae at Te Papa Tongarewa in
Wellington.
“Trimble’s innovation, called Catalyst, allows positioning measurements to be more cost-effective and accessible to a
much wider audience without compromising accuracy” says Hadyn Smith, NZSEA chair.
“Out of all the entries, this promises to have the most impact. It stood out for its immense potential for delivering
survey accurate measurement solutions using widely available mobile means - its professional and public reach,
therefore, cannot be underestimated” commented the award judges,
Far North District Council took out the award for Spatial Enablement with a project that provided a new way of getting
involved in Council planning. The interactive mapping tool called 'Let's Plan Together' has allowed people in the Far
North to become engaged in the town planning process in a new, fresh way. One of the most exciting results for the
Council has been the participation of local Iwi and hapu in identifying their areas of significance.
Trevor William Hart was awarded Professional of the Year award for his significant but unassuming contributions to the
spatial industry over 18 years and Kate Waterhouse, from Western Bay of Plenty District Council was a worthy candidate
for the Young Professional of the Year. Her entusiasm and dedication as both a professional and volunteer in the
gepospatial arena making her a high performer
The Awards have now been going for four years and “each year we are astounded by the levels of innovation, creativity,
and excellence coming through” says Hadyn.
“The awards provide a crucial public forum for spatial disciplines across government, industry, research, and academia
to showcase the wide-ranging benefits to New Zealand and globally, that the innovative use of geospatial information and
technology brings.”
The winners in each category are now eligible for the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards that will be part of the
Locate 18 conference in Adelaide, April 2018.
Several of last year’s NZSEA winners stunned the industry by going on to dominate the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence
Awards held in Sydney earlier this year. The 2017 winners are continuing with the high standard that allows us to hold
our own on the world stage.
Wellington City Council’s Living Labs entry won the 2016 New Zealand Supreme and the overall APSEA award for industry
excellence and the People and Community Award.
