Te Papa’s ‘ICON’ catering selected as Parliament’s caterer

Te Papa’s ‘ICON’ catering selected as Parliament’s catering provider

Te Papa is pleased to announce that its catering arm ‘ICON Catering’ has been awarded the Parliamentary Service catering contract and will begin providing services from January 2018.

David Stevenson, General Manager Parliamentary Service, says ICON’s experience at Te Papa of managing multiple outlets and catering for large numbers of visitors, events and conferences were strong components of its winning proposal.
He says that in addition to ICON’s overall value for money offering, ICON’s passion for excellent customer service stood out.

“ICON are uniquely qualified to provide services to Parliament, given their extensive experience at Te Papa catering to a high volume of visitors while also managing multiple cafes and a large number of significant events. They’ll soon be feeding visitors to Wellington’s top two tourist destinations”
A key feature of ICON’s bid is an exciting partnership which will see Wellington restaurant Logan Brown, acting in partnership with ICON to re-invigorate Bellamy’s.

As well as day-to-day catering for Parliament, ICON will also operate the new coffee outlet in Parliament’s Visitor Centre, offering food and drinks to visitors touring the Parliament buildings.

Te Papa’s Director-Commercial, Ian Crowe, says this is an exciting opportunity for Te Papa.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity,” says Mr. Crowe. “Parliament and Te Papa have shared values as places that represent and serve New Zealand, and this partnership is a great fit. We will be focusing on delivering a service that reflects us as kiwis and the extraordinary quality of our local and national products and suppliers. We will renew the culinary offer to the Members, staff and visitors to Parliament and flow any profits through Te Papa to support education, culture and our national community.”

The transition to ICON will take place over the summer break and the existing catering supplier’s staff will have the option of transitioning to the new provider, if desired.
