VNZ recognises International Volunteer Managers Day with a new business qualification
Managers of volunteers, the people responsible for ensuring many of New Zealand’s workforce of 1.2m volunteers have as great an impact as possible will be celebrated on nationwide on Sunday, 5 November during International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMD).
IVMD is a chance to recognise and celebrate the vital work volunteer managers provide to volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations through effective volunteer strategy, culture, communication and resources. Without this work, volunteers’ time, talents and efforts would be wasted.
New partnership to promote more effective volunteer management
VNZ is therefore proud to promote its new partnership with Careerforce to increase the professional standard of New Zealand’s managers of volunteers with a new business qualification; the New Zealand Certificate in First Line Management. This certificate is a flexible, affordable learning opportunity designed for experienced or aspiring team leaders, supervisors or coordinators of volunteers.
“It’s a great way to match your passion for supporting others and making a difference in our communities with a nationally-recognised professional framework, allowing you to better manage, engage and inspire your teams,” says Careerforce Chief Executive Ray Lind.
The qualification builds on VNZ’s acclaimed Competencies for Managers of Volunteers, and is a strong step forward in promoting volunteer management as a recognised and respected profession within the wider management field.
“Volunteers are a significant part of our society and if we want them to remain generous with their time and effort, we need to ensure we invest in their success through effective management and leadership,” says Scott Miller, VNZ Chief Executive. “Without it, our national volunteering efforts would be much, much less effective,” says Miller.
Note: This new qualification will be available in early 2018, once assessors have been trained to meet the anticipated demand of this exciting new qualification.
