ASB announces new way to pay with ‘Fitbit Pay’

ASB has teamed up with global wearables brand Fitbit to offer payments on-the-go with Fitbit’s new ‘Ionic’ smartwatch.

Customers will be able to use their ASB Visa debit and credit cards for making contactless payments with the tap of the watch.

ASB general manager payments Matt Bartlett says this creates a wrist-worn wallet and gives ASB Visa customers even more ways to pay.

“Leaving home without your wallet or phone doesn’t mean you can’t buy what you need,” Mr Bartlett says.

“ASB is committed to offering customers choice as to how they want to pay and we are delighted to work with Fitbit to offer the freedom of contactless payments.

“This will be great for our customers with active lifestyles who don’t want to take their phone or wallet with them when they are out and about.”

Ionic was launched globally last month and is now available in New Zealand. The payments function will be available soon. Customers can set up Fitbit Pay through the Fitbit app and it works across Apple, Android and Windows platforms.

Fitbit Pay is in addition to the ASB Virtual mobile wallet, which allows customers to use their Android phone to make payments wherever payWave is accepted, and control features through the ASB Mobile app.
