Chapman Tripp Acts on Beach Energy’s Au$1.5bn Acquisition of Lattice Energy
Chapman Tripp has been advising on the landmark AU$1.5bn trans-Tasman deal that will see Australasian oil and gas company Beach Energy acquire Lattice Energy, the conventional upstream oil and gas business of Origin Energy.
The transaction is transformative for ASX-listed Beach Energy, and will see Beach Energy acquire a major interest in the Kupe gas field in Taranaki, which is New Zealand’s third largest production facility. The transaction is subject to approval by the Overseas Investment Office and the Minister of Energy and Resources.
The Chapman Tripp team was led by partner Josh Blackmore, senior associate Simon Peart and solicitor Tom Jemson.
“We are proud to be working on the New Zealand side of this significant deal, which establishes Beach Energy as a leading Australasian oil and gas company and a major contributor to New Zealand’s oil and gas industry,” Blackmore said.
Chapman Tripp’s team worked closely with their counterparts at Gilbert + Tobin, who advised Beach on all aspects of the transaction.
The deal marks a busy quarter for Chapman Tripp, which is the leading New Zealand firm for M&A deal count and volume according to Bloomberg’s Q3 Global M&A Market Review Legal Rankings.
