INDUSTRY FOCUS – EDUCATION & TRAINING
New job ads on SEEK for the Education & Training industry grew 19 per cent from June to August 2017 when compared to the same period last year.
“At a national level, the most job opportunities on SEEK across Education & Training industry from June to August 2017, were for Tertiary Teachers and Early Childhood Teachers. Advertising for
both fields also enjoyed year on year growth, rising 15 per cent y/y and 27 per cent y/y respectively,” revealed
“While off a lower base, the greatest growth in advertising over the past three months [June to August 2017] for the
Education & Training industry was for Childcare & Outside School Hours Care roles, with job ads increasing a notable 92 per cent y/y.
“It’s no surprise there are more new job ads on SEEK for childcare professionals than 12 months ago. Childcare is a
booming sector across New Zealand with an increasing demand for more centres and places,” said Faulding.
“The NZ Herald reported in February this year that since 2008 the proportion of children enrolled in Early Childhood
Education [ECE] has risen from 93.6 per cent to 96.6 per cent, while time spent in ECE has reached an average of 21.7
hours a week, up from 13.5 hours in 2000. Therefore, more childcare professionals are being seeked to supply this
growing demand,” Faulding continued.
