My Box owner Krish Reddy will be at the Hamilton High Court Monday September 25 starting at 2.15pm, as part of the
on-going legal disputes with cable giant SKY TV. My Box continues to have the upper hand in the case, Here’s how:
Dating back to the April news release by The Herald titled ‘Sky takes legal action to tackle streaming’, is where this
all started for My Box owner Krish Reddy.
Krish and his My Box product, which is rapidly growing from strength to strength, are preparing to go to the Hamilton
High Court Monday September 25 to prove the legality of his streaming device once again, starting at 2:15pm.
My Box has now been a thorn in cable giant SKY TV’s side for months, capitalising on people such as the 34,000
unsubscribed sky users of the past year, in offering them the best of a one-off payment streaming device with all the
options and quality of SKY TV.
Earlier this year in April, a press release regarding the legal disputes between SKY TV and My Box surfaced. Part of it
read:
“My Box maintains that it is completely legal in its dealings. The service simply allows customers to access
high-quality streams of their own accord. The fact that the box is set up to allow customers to find certain streams
does not hold My Box accountable for what they may find. Sky channels such as sports, movies and entertainments are all
accessible via the streams My Box makes available.”
However, in the most recent months of August and September, SKY TV has shown further objection to the claims that My Box
is legal in their dealings, and has begun gearing up for this court case on the heels of what can only be called
‘desperation mode’ for SKY TV and their struggling customer retention rates.
As it still stands, My Box is still the only company in the world who has gone legal with SKY TV and won.
“We openly challenge Sky, and we stand by our product,” Says Krish. “SKY probably thinks we will go away but I believe
we have the weight of public opinion behind us and no-one likes to see a big bully trying these tactics to dominate the
market place.”
Being sold almost exclusively online to date in over 11 different countries, My Box last month began selling their
product in person, by opening up a stall in Chartwell shopping centre in Hamilton.
The future plans for My Box include expanding to all malls throughout New Zealand, and eventually Australia.
“I’m a small company who is trying to make TV affordable. Rattling a giant like SKY’s cage was the intention,” explains
Krish.
This intention will come to fruition next week, as months of disputes and development of the case have culminated to see
Krish take on SKY’s legal team and prove the legitimacy of My Box; a notion all too familiar for Krish.
About My Box:
My Box was started as a hobby in Matamata, New Zealand, where owner Krish Von Roy Reddy was toying around with the idea
of streaming channels. From this experiment the My Box product was founded. After talking with friends, Krish realised
that the concept of My Box had the ability to be launched worldwide and now this process has happened. Since then My Box
has become the sixth business that Krish has run and demonstrated the business acumen that he has developed. Krish is an
advocate of giving back to the community (social giving). Each of his businesses reach out to those in need in the
community and give back. Krish has travelled worldwide in his pursuit of social giving and has become a world leader in
this area of community support.
