New Generation Suzuki Swift Sport About to Break Cover
A lighter, more efficient new Suzuki Swift Sport model is set to be announced at the Frankfurt international motor show on September 12.
This third
generation Sport is based on the brand new Swift range which
launched in
New Zealand in June. As the performance
flagship model of the popular Swift lineup, the eagerly
awaited hot hatch is scheduled to go on sale here during the
first quarter of next year.
Suzuki Motor Corporation has yet to reveal technical details of the Sport, but has previewed body and interior changes.
For the first time the Swift Sport will feature turbocharged power, using a version of Suzuki’s latest Boosterjet engine, and the car will be available for the New Zealand market with the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-stage automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The Sport has always held a special place in Suzuki’s lineup since the first generation model in 2005. New front end styling with a unique grille, revised front apron and large, aggressive cuts and small front splitter distinguish the Sport from other Swift models.
There are side body skirts and at the rear end a black diffuser and two large exhausts. New diamond-cut designed silver and black aluminium alloy wheels are also unique to the Sport, while interior changes include upgraded front sports seats, red detail trimming and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
“Swift Sports have always harked back to classic hot hatches of old with their tenacity and clean dynamic interaction, and we expect the latest generation version to inherit these admirable qualities,” said Gary Collins, General Manager, Automobile Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand.
The new Swift Sport promises to be the best value hot hatch on the local market, building on the strengths of its predecessor while incorporating the latest technology and enhanced specification.
