Ruapehu Team wins Commendation in the
Inaugural
Ministry of Business,
Innovation and Employment Awards – Celebrating
Excellence
Ruapehu District
Council, Visit Ruapehu and a consortium of specialist
consultants, led by HenleyHutchings have received accolades
from their peers at the Inaugural Ministry of Business,
Innovation and Employment Awards (MBIE) for their ground
breaking and best practice initiative, ‘The Ruapehu
Regional Visitor Sector Development Plan and Destination
Value Proposition’.
The initiative won the attention of
the Awards panel because of its strong and tangible
commitment to collaboration, evidence based planning and
multi skilled teamwork.
Project
Leader, John Hutchings said ‘A ‘process-rich’ approach
was applied to the project. This was because of a desire to
coalesce a ‘Coalition of the Willing.’
‘The result is a refreshed destination proposition statement and brand that reflects the diverse Ruapehu landscape, extending from the three maunga to the abundant forests and river below, as well as the distinctive geological stratification that so typifies the Ruapehu area.
In a broader and more metaphorical sense, they also denote the lines of a heartbeat, signifying the activity of both the physical and social environments. All up, they perfectly capture an active place where you come alive as you experience ‘Ruapehu: Our Greater Outdoors’. Said John Hutchings.
Ruapehu mayor Don Cameron said that Ruapehu and our regional partners wanted to congratulate and thank MBIE and Henley Hutchings for providing the vision and leadership that has enabled the successful delivery of the Ruapehu Regional Visitor Sector Development Plan and Destination Value Proposition.
“The outcome that has been achieved would not have been possible without the appropriate process that brought together leading tourism experts, operators, community partners and iwi with central and local government,” he said.
Accelerate25 Lead Team chairperson Michael McCartney added that the award is the ‘icing on the cake’ for this key piece of work as part of the Accelerate25 Economic Action Plan for Manawatu-Whanganui and marks a major milestone in tourism and visitor services increasing its contribution to sustainable regional GDP growth.”
The winners will be presented with the
Commendation on the evening of the 31st August, at the Gala
Awards Dinner. The Awards are sponsored by the Ministry of
Business, Innovation and Employment and hosted by Economic
Development New Zealand.
