Grass Roots Charities Receive Cash Injection

Grass Roots Charities Receive Cash Injection at Live Crowdfunding Event

Three innovative grass roots charities pitched to a spirited audience of generous donors at The Funding Network’s event last night, raising $22,750 for their causes.

The charities, InsideOUT, Urutapu and the Wellbeing Trust inspired the audience to support their causes with moving six-minute presentations in a style that was part TEDTalks, part Dragon’s Den. A lively pledging session followed where funds were raised for each charity, with a minimum pledge of $100.

The theme for the event was Diversity & Inclusion, and was held in partnership with ASB at their Cube event space in Auckland’s North Wharf.

“It was wonderful to be able to work with The Funding Network and support charities that align with the ASB values. ASB is committed tobuilding and supporting sustainable communities in New Zealand. It’s great to support these organisations in such an exciting entertaining and different way.” said Jonathan Beale, General Manager of ASB Wealth, and the event host.

“The Funding Network is all about building capacity and giving grass roots organisations a voice in fun, live way - great to see this come alive in such a powerful way last night” said Nick Edgar, Co-founder of The Funding Network NZ and Chair of TFN’s Steering Committee.

Louisa Wall, Labour Party MP and former national netball representative took time out of her busy pre-election schedule to be an advocate for the charity InsideOUT.

About the charities:

InsideOUT - working to make Aotearoa a safer place for all young people of minority genders and sexualities to live and be in. We work with young people, whānau, schools, youth service providers and communities to achieve our aims of decreasing and preventing homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.

Urutapu - a tamāhine leadership programme for young māori women between the ages of 16-19. Our approach is underpinned by Kaupapa Maori principles and encompasses the development of innovative, creative and energetic tamāhine with the capability to lead themselves, their whānau, hapu, Iwi and Maori into a global society.

Wellbeing Trust - working with migrant families to help them settle and by delivering the positive parenting programs with our core value “Love, respect and safe”. We encourage the parents to find alternatives to smacking, and increase the awareness of family violence prevention, especially within intergenerational families.
