2015 vintage wines “very high quality”
GIMBLETT GRAVELS® 2015 Annual Vintage Selection revealed
“Very high quality” was Master of Wine Andrew Caillard’s description of the top twelve GIMBLETT GRAVELS® red wines chosen to showcase the 2015 vintage. Following the selection tasting Andrew praised the winemakers, noting that “as a body of work, I think the 2015s are a lovely bunch of wines”.
The eighth year of this initiative from the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowers Association, the Annual Vintage Selection (AVS) serves as a unique snapshot of a single vintage and helps to chart the evolution of GIMBLETT GRAVELS® wines on a vintage by vintage basis.
Highly respected and internationally recognised Sydney based Master of Wine Andrew Caillard, has been the selector for all eight vintages, 2008-2015.
Andrew commented that “Gimblett Gravels Syrah should evoke the purity of site but also possess complexity and richness to achieve longevity”, noting that “exceptional” examples of Syrah he tasted “really do show the potential of this variety in the GIMBLETT GRAVELS WINE GROWING DISTRICT®”.
The diversity of style shown in the Cabernet blends was also applauded, with Andrew describing the best as having“clear varietal expression, underpinned by a soupcon of new oak and maturation character”.
Chairman of the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowers Association, Gordon Russell commented “this year’s 2015 Vintage Selection reinforces the theme that GIMBLETT GRAVELS® wines showcase a distinctive sense of place, and are crafted by a group of skilled and passionate producers. It’s a place that produces unique wines of world class quality”.
