A fun-filled July School Holidays at Capital E!

We’re jam packed with great activities for children and young people at Capital E during the July School Holidays, from inspirational storytelling to musical adventures and 360 degree cameras, our range of options will light their creative spark!

We welcome live theatre back to Capital E in collaboration with Little Dog Barking and Tikapa Productions. Peter Wilson’s much-loved Little Kowhai Tree and Jamie McCaskill’s musically adventurous Mata and the Mysterious Musical Maunga will be on in our indoor playspace throughout July.

Explore our state-of-the-art digital studios and learn all about creative technologies in one of our Digital Days, a full day workshop (for juniors and seniors) that’s bound to inspire young minds. Or make your first steps into the melodramatic world of TV production, with Make a Soap Opera.

All ages

What’s the Story? (All ages, Mon – Sat, 10 July – 26 Aug, Capital E, 9.30am-3.30pm, free entry): The new installation in our free indoor playspace is all about inspiring stories and storytelling in fun, engaging and interactive ways.

Ages 0-6

Little Kowhai Tree (Ages 2-6, Tues 11 – Sat 15 July, 10am-10.45am, Capital E, $8 earlybird - book before 26 June, $10 general admission): July sees the return of Peter Wilson’s much-loved theatre show Little Kowhai Tree, a perfect introduction to live performance for children, this collaboration with Little Dog Barking Theatre Company tells the tale of a little seed growing up into a towering Kowhai, and the friend’s that help her on that journey to adulthood.

Stories & Art (Ages 3-6, Tues 11 July, Capital E, 2-3pm, $2)

Join award winning Wellington children’s book author Juliette MacIver for a fun filled hour of her stories followed by art activities.

Book Sculptures (Ages 5+, Wed 12 & 19 July, Capital E, 12-2pm, $2): Drop in and join origami book artist Caron Dallas of Norac Salad and learn the art of crafting book sculptures.

Ages 7-14

360 Degree Filmmaking (Ages 11+, Tues 11 & Wed 12 July, 10am-3pm, MediaLab, Capital E, $99 per participant for 2 day workshop): Taught in collaboration with content and VR company Wrestler, this two-day crash course in 360 degree filmmaking allows you to learn about producing, writing and acting, before working in groups to complete a short film. Digital Day (Junior) (Ages 8-10, Thurs 13 July, 10am-3pm, MediaLab & OnTV, Capital E, $57 per participant): Get the best of what our MediaLab & OnTV Studio has to offer in a full day digital workshop!

Digital Day (Senior) (Ages 11+, Thurs 20 July, 10am-3pm, MediaLab & OnTV, Capital E, $57 per participant): Get the best of what our MediaLab & OnTV Studio has to offer in a full day digital workshop!

Mata and the Mysterious Maunga (Ages 7+, Mon 17 – Sat 22 July, 10am-10.55am, Capital E, $8 earlybird (book before 26 June), $10 general admission): Join us on a musical adventure through Aotearoa as Mata journeys to a mysterious maunga to see an ancient kōauau, guided by nga manu and waiata through dangerous challenges while encountering quirky and charming characters. This beautifully told theatre show is in collaboration with Tikapa Productions.

Make a Soap Opera (Ages 11+, Tues 18 & Wed 19 July, 10am-3pm, OnTV, Capital E, $99 per participant for 2 day workshop): Write, direct, overact and pout your way through an episode of an all new soap opera, created by you! Bring a series of outrageous scenarios to life in this one of a kind OnTV session.
