Destination Great Lake Taupō launches winter campaign

Destination Great Lake Taupō launches winter campaign:

‘Winter’s only cold if you’re standing still’ | ‘Winter’s warmer after a day on the snow’

Destination Great Lake Taupō has just launched its winter campaign, positioning the region as a top winter ski holiday destination. The campaign is using new initiatives like a digital animation video and a winter microsite to focus on Taupō and Turangi as the ultimate bases for a snow holiday.

Anna McLaren, marketing manager for Destination Great Lake Taupō, said whether it be skiing, snowboarding, playing in the snow or off-mountain activities, the region has everything the South Island has to offer and more when it comes to a ski holiday.

“We have two of the biggest ski areas in the southern hemisphere on our doorstep, and an amazing array of off-mountain activities including adrenalin activities and more relaxing experiences. Soaking in the healing geothermal waters of one of our many natural hot pools after a day on the slopes is such a luxury – that’s our real point of difference.”

“This campaign is all about reinforcing how easy it is to access Mt Ruapehu from Taupo and Turangi, showcasing the huge array of off-mountain experiences in our region and building awareness of the multi-million dollar investment going into Whakapapa Ski Area – it’s a beautiful recipe for the perfect winter ski holiday.”

Taupō’s newest offerings for the 2017 season include the opening of Mt Ruapehu’s ‘SnowHQ’ info, rental and ticketing office located in central Taupō, and a new daily bus service from Taupō, via Turangi, to the mountain.

“With daily flights into Taupo airport, off-mountain ticketing and gear hire, and new shuttle services to the mountain, escaping a busy Auckland or Wellington CBD for a stress-free snow getaway has never been easier.”

“Taupo is fast becoming a full-service winter resort town, and for those wanting to stay closer to the action, Turangi offers a real ski village feel”.

McLaren said the town’s restaurants and bars were also getting on board with the winter spirit by stepping up their après ski offerings. “We’ve got bars and restaurants that have that real ski lodge vibe - cosy open fires, mulled wine on the menu and hearty winter food to warm you up.” She said many of these places are either right on the lakefront or have amazing lake views, so you can “sit and enjoy a wood-fired pizza or mulled wine while watching the sun set over the snowy mountains.”

Destination Great Lake Taupō’s winter campaign includes the launch of a winter microsite www.NorthIslandSkiHoliday.com. This new site covers every aspect of a winter holiday in the region with insiders’ tips on the best trails, quirky and fun stories like ’Keeping the Romance on your Snow Holiday’ and tips for taking your family to the snow for the first time.

The winter campaign also sees the launch of DGLT’s new digital animation video featuring a city-dwelling young professional who daydreams about escaping the rat race. His daydream takes him on a journey to Great Lake Taupo where he goes on adventures and finally learns to relax. The video is available on all Destination Great Lake Taupo’s social and online channels and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/uJYXpxYg2GQ.
