Property Council announces National Awards nominations
The nominations for the Annual National Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards have
been announced.
The Property Council Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards are an annual celebration of excellence in property
development that shape city landscapes.
Projects are judged on economic and financial factors, project vision and innovation (including degree of difficulty),
design and construction, owner and user satisfaction, and sustainability and efficiency of operation.
A total of 82 nominations have been received this year, with nominations vying for the top spot in the country’s most
prestigious property awards night.
The projects cover a range of categories such as office, retail and education, arts, green and tourism projects through
to public buildings, urban land, and industrial and heritage developments in a judging process that has spanned more
than three months.
Chief Judge Andrew Evans says the calibre of nominations this year was exceedingly high with many nominations coming
from outside the main city centres, further reinforcing the breadth of New Zealand’s design talent.
“There was a depth of quality in the nominees this year, most significantly in the Civic & Arts, Heritage & Adaptive Reuse, Education, Green Building and Commercial Office.
“The Industrial Category, where the perception is that industrial buildings are just “big sheds”, stood out this year.
This is due to the high level of consultation and collaboration between the design teams, builders, and end users, to
create buildings that are finely tuned to meet the occupiers needs.
“Also noted was the ingenuity and initiative shown by owners, designers, engineers and contractors in the Education and
Civic & Arts Categories, regarding their ability to integrate cultural and historic elements into a buildings design and
layout.”
Property Council chief executive Connal Townsend says the innovative development projects, specifically designed with
the tenants needs in mind, have resulted in outstanding, beautifully designed buildings.
“The nominees this year reflect the practical and innovative industry designs that are making a significant contribution
to our local and national economies by providing accommodation, employment and amenities that communities need to
thrive.
“They also contribute economically, by providing outstanding long-term investments with excellent commercial returns for
the owners.”
All entries will be presented and awarded properties announced at a sold-out black-tie awards evening at Spark Arena in
Auckland on Friday, 16 June.
