James & Wells appoints new senior staff.

National intellectual property specialists James & Wells have made three significant senior appointments.

Ben Cain and David Macaskill have been appointed to Senior Associate, while Rebecca Pennell has been promoted to Human Resources Manager.

Ben Cain specialises in helping resolve a wide range of IP disputes for both international and local New Zealand clients, including disputes in respect of trade mark rights, domain names, fair trading, copyright, registered designs and confidential information. He regularly appears in proceedings before the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, IP Australia, the District Court and the High Court of New Zealand, as well as domain name dispute resolution proceedings under the DRSP (NZ), auDRP (Australia), and the UDRP (TLDs).

A Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, Ben holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), a Master of Science in International Marketing, and a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). He is also an accredited mediator (Resolution Institute) and an associate member of AMINZ.

David Macaskill works with clients on commercially relevant intellectual property strategies, portfolio management, and securing and enforcing rights. He has patent experience in the chemical, mechanical engineering, medical devices, and materials sciences sectors, as well as trade mark experience in the alcohol, food and beverage, consumer goods, and engineering industries.

David holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chemistry, a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Science in Chemistry and is a Registered Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys, and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry

Rebecca Pennell takes up the Human Resources Manager role from her current position as Human Resources Coordinator. She is an experienced HR professional, having worked at James & Wells for over ten years.

Ben, David and Rebecca are all based in James & Wells Hamilton office.

James & Wells has also made two new appointments in its Auckland office, promoting Gemma Smith to the role of Solicitor and Emma Rehman to Law Clerk.
