Women of Influence Awards open for fifth year

New Zealand’s Women of Influence Awards open for fifth year

Nominations open for the annual Women of Influence Awards

11 April 2017

Nominations are now open for the Fairfax Media and Westpac Women of Influence Awards. Now in its fifth year, the awards have garnered a growing list of inspiring names - some already familiar, while they bring recognition to others making resounding impacts in their communities.

Fairfax Media Group Executive Editor Sinead Boucher has been a judge for the past two years. She comments that the quality and quantity of entries the awards attract every year tells a heartening tale of the immeasurable number of passionate and visionary Kiwi women we live and work among.

“The Women of Influence Awards are an opportunity for New Zealanders to take stock of the extraordinary women we know and put them forward for the recognition they deserve. They’re a special opportunity to highlight and celebrate these special women and the fantastic things they are doing.”

Similarly, Westpac NZ CEO David McLean says everybody should be able to nominate at least one person: “It might be someone you work with, someone active in your local community, or someone who has inspired you from a distance. I’m sure every New Zealander, male and female, knows or knows of a woman whose efforts and achievements deserve wider recognition - now is your chance to make it happen.”

McLaren says the awards play an important role: “By celebrating what these women have done, we are showing others, men and women, what they can achieve in their chosen fields - and how that can in turn be used to benefit a broader group of people.”

Last year attracted a record number of nominations, resulting in 100 women being recognised at the sold-out awards dinner.

Boucher and McLaren are looking forward to seeing the calibre of achievements brought to light from this year’s applications and encourage people to nominate.
