Singapore Airlines Continues its commitment to Christchurch with additional summer services
Singapore Airlines today announced it will again provide supplementary services to and from Christchurch for the
2017/18 summer season.
From 30 November 2017 through to 16 February 2018 Singapore Airlines will add an additional 30 flights into Christchurch
to cater for increased demand during the peak season.
The ten round-trip flights per week will add 8,130 seats and will also cover Chinese New Year on Friday, 15 February
2018.
Singapore Airlines has been flying to Christchurch since 1986, and General Manager, Singapore Airlines New Zealand,
Simon Turcotte, says Singapore Airlines commitment to supporting the South Island and Christchurch remains strong.
“We’ve flown to Christchurch for over 30 years, and we remain committed to our relationship with the Garden city and the
wider South Island community,” Mr Turcotte said.
“The additional flights will provide greater opportunities for New Zealand tourism and will also help to bring more
international visitors to places like Kaikoura and Marlborough.”
The additional Christchurch flights will operate as SQ296/SQ295 and will be serviced by Singapore Airlines’ fleet of
777-200ER aircraft, offering 26 Business Class and 245 Economy Class seats and providing increased connections through
Singapore to the wider Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network.
Christchurch Airport Chief Aeronautical and Commercial manager Justin Watson says the confirmation of the airline’s
increased schedule is a reflection of the success of last season’s additional services.
“This is a welcome continued show of support from our longtime airline partner, which has served this airport and the
South Island for more than 30 years. The 30 double daily services over next summer will bring people here to see the
South Island and help South Islanders get to the places they want to see. It’s a win-win.”
Following Singapore Airlines 30th Anniversary celebrations in Christchurch last year the company will this year
celebrate 70 years of operations globally.
