RESEARCH PROVES EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN NEEDED
The empowerment of women in the workplace is vital given the latest research says the New Zealand Women’s Empowerment
Principles Committee.
“The Ministry for Women research, Empirical evidence of the gender pay gap in New Zealand, released yesterday proves that more needs to be done to empower women in their workplaces,” says Vicky Mee, Chair of the
New Zealand Women’s Empowerment Principles Committee.
“Those of us who have spent many years working for gender equality in the workplace have always understood the major
issue is about un- and sub- conscious bias, and this research backs us up.
“UN Women and the UN Global Compact initiated a roadmap for businesses to empower women in the workplace and this latest
research by the Ministry proves it is much needed.
“Over 50 New Zealand businesses and organisations have begun their journey to gender equality in their workplaces, now
it’s time for the entire public and private sector to commit to change.
“This International Women’s Day, we are calling on businesses to front up about gender bias and sign up to the Women’s
Empowerment Principles,” says Ms Mee.
