Skills Active revisits a growing career

Dion Ngatoro has a passion for working outdoors and looking after precious natural resources, and with the help of industry organisation Skills Active Aotearoa, that passion is taking him places.

Dion previously starred in a Skills Active video where he talked about completing the National Certificate in Parks and Reserves (Park Ranger) Level 3, and how it helped to kickstart his career change as a park ranger with Wellington Regional Council.

In a brand new video shot on location at Dion’s work, he talks about his new role as Forest Ranger for the Akatarawa and Pakuratahi Forest Areas in Upper Hutt.

“Applying for any new job, there is a little bit of fear. But I was pretty confident in my abilities, throughout the interview process.”

Some of the skills he developed in his park ranger training continue to apply in his new job, including plant identification, knowledge of the Resource Management Act, and working with the public.

“Those skills I learnt through my Skills Active training, I find I still use them on a daily basis.”
