Season’s greetings from Eastland Network and our crews

Power is now fully restored to Gisborne and the East Coast, in time for the Christmas holidays.

Final repairs to the high voltage lines near Hangaroa, damaged in a plane accident at the start of last week, were completed on Sunday 18 December four hours ahead of schedule.

Now that the region’s power supply is secured, the crews are heading back home to their families.

“Apart from some tidying up on site, all the work is complete,” said Eastland Network general manager Brent Stewart. “The crews, including the out of town repair crew from Broadspectrum, are going home today for a well-deserved rest.”

Locals have followed the crews’ progress on social media, sharing messages of encouragement along the way - including thanks for the speedy repairs, offers of home baking, and even reminders to wear sunscreen.

“On behalf of Eastland Network and the repair crews from Gisborne and further afield, we want to thank everyone for their patience and their many messages of support,” said Mr Stewart.

“We wish you all a safe and happy Christmas. Like us, we know that your thoughts are with the families of George and Robert at this time.”
