Strike: no transforma ladders or bambillo pillows
Strike: no transforma ladders or bambillo pillows this Christmas
If you’ve ordered a transforma ladder or a bambillo pillow for Christmas, expect delays as distribution centre workers take strike action today for fair pay at the popular advertorial company Brand Developers TV Shop.
“The company owner Paul Meier won’t even write a starting rate into the collective agreement,” said FIRST Union organiser Kate Davis.
FIRST Union represents over 60 percent of the distribution centre workers at the company.
“We’ve been in negotiations for a year and a half and Meier is still withholding a fair pay rise for the workforce. We’re asking him to show a little Christmas spirit.”
“How close do we have to get to Christmas before Meier does the decent thing and settles an agreement?”
“The company expects distribution centre workers and the call centre workers to survive on little more than the minimum wage. Many of our members have gone years without a pay rise. Many of them have seen their hours change week to week on nothing more than a manager’s whim. Restructures have happened and no redundancy pay was given,” said Davis.
“It looks like Santa won’t be delivering Christmas presents from the TV Shop this year.”
The workers will picket outside the company’s distribution centre at 686 Rosebank Rd, Avondale, from 8.15am to 10am on Wednesday 14 December 2016.
