New look Countdown opens in Mt Eden
Refurbished supermarket boasts bigger store, more car parks, and special trolleys designed for coffee with your shopping
13 December 2016: Today marks the opening of Countdown’s new look Mt Eden store, which is now 1350sqm larger with more parking, and new specially designed trolleys with coffee cup holders for customers to enjoy a coffee while they shop.
Mt Eden is one of Countdown’s original stores and has been part of the local community since the 1970’s. It is also one of Countdown’s busiest, and over the last 40 years the community has grown and changed significantly, which was one of the main drivers behind the refurbishment.
The new-look store has been redesigned with its Mt Eden customers top of mind, including a dedicated space near the front of the store for popular products such as milk and bread, great for customers who are in a rush to pick up kids from school.
Countdown Mt Eden Store Manager, Wiebe van der Veen, says he’s excited to have the refurbishment completed heading into Christmas.
“Over the last year, we have been listening to our customers and have introduced new products, range and services that we know our customers want.
“We now have in-house butchers who can cut specific meat on request, a fish specialist who can fillet whole fish while you wait, and we’ve introduced two new food experts and a wine specialist to help customers with advice for choosing and preparing specialist food, along with offering expert matching suggestions.
“We have two schools close by, so we get a lot of parents popping in to quickly grab a few products during pick-up and drop-off, which is why we set up space at the front of the store for popular items such as bread and milk. It’s a really simple change, but one which our customers who are in a rush will love. We have also increased our parking to ease congestion,” said Mr van der Veen.
As well as a bigger, brighter entrance and a complete makeover in the fresh section including a new sushi-making counter, the store also now has more than 750 products in its expanded health food section.
The other new service is the Countdown Pharmacy in-store, with $3 standard prescriptions and longer pharmacy hours for extra convenience
