Deadly December warning for drivers
The AA is reminding drivers to take special care as the most lethal month on our roads begins.
In the last five years December has averaged nearly 31 deaths on the roads, well above any other month.
“The AA wants drivers to do all they can to protect themselves this month and every month,” says AA spokesperson Simon
Douglas.
“That means sticking to a safe speed for the conditions, increasing your following distance, keeping 100% focussed on
your driving, wearing your seatbelt and not driving when you’re tired or impaired.”
The AA is also reminding drivers that, as in recent summers, the speed tolerance will be 4km/h through December and
January and the Police will be out in force.
“We are heading into a special time of the year and it’s worth taking special care on the roads,” says Mr Douglas.
“Nearly 300 people have lost their lives already in 2016 and the AA wants every family to enjoy summer without the
devastation of losing a loved one.”

• Drive to the conditions
• Stick to a safe speed
• Give yourself more following distance
• Keep your focus on driving
• Don’t drive when you are tired
