Hokey Pokey still top choice for Kiwis
Auckland, 30 November 2016. The king of kiwiana, Hokey Pokey, has whipped its contenders into shape and once again scooped the top spot as the nation’s favourite ice-cream flavour.
Competition was stiff but melted away as Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Otago and Southland all declared Hokey Pokey the ‘king of the cone’.
Commenting on their survey of over 2,000 New Zealanders, Canstar Blue spokesperson Emma Quantrill said:
“With so many new flavours on the market it’s great to see that Hokey Pokey still reigns supreme. It’s a kiwi icon.
“But our survey does show that there is a contender to the crown. Cookies and Cream is gaining popularity amongst the younger generations and it will be interesting to see if Hokey Pokey can retain top spot over the next few years.”
New Zealand is top of the world when it comes to Ice Cream
Although it didn’t hit New Zealand shores until sometime after 1800, we’ve become a nation of ice cream connoisseurs. In fact, according to the New Zealand Ice Cream Manufacturing Association New Zealanders have been ranked as the biggest ice cream lovers in the world, annually consuming an average of 23 litres per capita!
Emma went on to say:
“We love our ice cream and tend to know exactly why we like it. One in five of us are very loyal to the brand we buy and can’t be tempted to try other products, even if they are on special.
“Our overall drivers of satisfaction are in order of merit, taste, value for money, variety and finally the packaging.
And the winner is…..
From the survey of 11 brands, the five stars for overall satisfaction was awarded to Auckland based, family owned,Much Moore who have been making ice cream for over 30 years.
