Cricket Wellington elects new Chair

Cricket Wellington Media Release

29 November 2016

Cricket Wellington elects new Chair

Sally Morrison is the new Chair of Cricket Wellington (CW). Sally was elected at the Board’s monthly meeting yesterday, following the resignation last week of Bruce Pepperell.

Sally has been a Director of CW for eight years. Prior to joining the Board Sally held a number of roles within cricket. She was the Chair of Wellington Collegians Cricket Club, the Manager of the Wellington Blaze, and was a coach and player herself. She has literally enjoyed a lifelong association with the game; her birth was induced so her father could play in a Test Match the next day!

Sally is the first female Chair of a Major Association in New Zealand, and her interests and contribution span the wide ambit of cricket governance and administration.

“I feel privileged and humbled to step into the role of Chair, and I’m looking forward to leading and helping drive key projects within Wellington as we work towards making this great game more attractive and inclusive for all

“I am fortunate to be elected as Chair on a very experienced and capable Board with outstanding membership.”

“I have always had a deep affinity and passion for cricket and have enjoyed many years being associated with the game. As Chair I want to engage with our stakeholders quickly, and to draw on their views about this great game to help ensure we have the very best opportunities and experiences for players and supporters

Sally holds a senior strategy role with the NZ Police, and has a background in project and relationship management.

Bruce Pepperell, the Regional Manager of the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) resigned last week when it became clear that his work in the aftermath of the earthquake would demand his total focus over the coming months. Sally paid tribute to Bruce, saying “Bruce Pepperell provided outstanding leadership and direction to Cricket Wellington over the past two years, and prior to that in his four years as a valued Board Member. His careful stewardship was widely respected around NZ, and we are very grateful for his service.

The Board also appointed Chris Lendrum to fill the vacancy created by Mr Pepperell’s resignation. Chris is currently the Head of Professional Rugby at NZ Rugby.
