MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ expertise in helping clients get the country’s most complex and technically challenging deals done was cemented at the New Zealand Law Awards last night.
The top tier firm was heavily involved in New Zealand Deal of the Year - Solid Energy’s voluntary administration, and M&A Deal of the Year - the sale of Vector Gas - announced at the much anticipated annual industry awards celebrating excellence in the legal profession.
MinterEllisonRuddWatts Chair Cathy Quinn is pleased with the industry recognition of the firm’s precedent setting performance over the past 12-months.
"Acting on the New Zealand Deal of the Year and being recognised by the industry for our expertise for some of the country’s largest, most complex matters is an enormous achievement," says Cathy Quinn.
"Solid Energy’s voluntary administration was one of the most significant and high profile voluntary administrations in New Zealand’s history, with an unprecedented list of stakeholders including the Government, councils, major banks, creditors, and employees. The deal is completely unique in size, scale and complexity."
M&A Deal of the Year - the sale of Vector Gas - is another complex deal of enormous scale.
"The sale of Vector Gas deal was the largest settled during the awards period, and required an innovative approach to manage key regulated assets and navigate Vector’s unique ownership structure," says Cathy Quinn.
Congratulations to Auckland Council’s Director Legal and Risk, Katherine Anderson who took top honours in the MinterEllisonRuddWatts In-house Lawyer of the Year.
"Katherine is an outstanding in-house lawyer, responsible for leading a large legal team and has an extremely broad set of responsibilities and legislation to abide by," says Cathy Quinn.
"She performs a hugely significant role in Auckland, and is leading in her legal and risk role during a time of significant transformational change. Her leadership has positively contributed to the growth and benefit of the city and New Zealand."
Katherine is a senior lawyer with private and public law experience. She joined Auckland Council in 2014 in the role of General Counsel, leading the delivery of legal services and risk management. Before joining Auckland Council, she represented the New Zealand Police in the Pike River Royal Commission and served as an advisor to Prime Ministers Helen Clark and John Key.
The judges also awarded a highly commended honour to Katrina Gardiner, ANZ New Zealand.
