Chapman Tripp Wins at NZ Law Awards

CHAPMAN TRIPP WINS AT NZ LAW AWARDS

Chapman Tripp has been named Large Law Firm of the Year at the 12th annual New Zealand Law Awards.

The firm also worked on most of the winning deals and won awards for:

• M&A Deal of the Year - sale of Vector Gas. Chapman Tripp advised Vector on the sale of its gas transmission business and non-Auckland gas distribution business to Australian utilities investor First State Funds.

• Capital Markets Deal of the Year - Solid Energy voluntary administration. Chapman Tripp advised Solid Energy’s five major bank lenders – ANZ, BNZ, CBA, Westpac NZ and the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi – in relation to the $450m voluntary administration, the largest and most complicated voluntary administration in NZ history.

• New Zealand Deal of the Year - Solid Energy voluntary administration.

• Consumer, Media and Tech Deal of the Year - Spark sale of Telecom Rentals. Chapman Tripp advised Spark on its sale of Telecom Rentals Limited, which provides IT and telecommunications equipment leases to commercial and government customers in NZ, to FlexiGroup, a finance company based in Australia.

Chapman Tripp’s Hoa Rangapū Whakarae (Chief Executive Partner) Nick Wells said: “We are delighted to win these awards and I want to congratulate our team on a another successful year.”

“We would also like to congratulate all award winners, including: Fonterra's Alex Mamo for winning Young In-House Lawyer of the Year (35 or under) Award, ANZ for winning Financial Services In-House Team of the Year and In-House Team of the Year and Auckland Council's Katherine Anderson for winning In-House Lawyer of the Year.

“The awards provide a great benchmark to ensure we are constantly pushing ourselves to achieve the best for clients on a daily basis,” Wells said.
