Queensgate Shopping Centre – Situation Update

Media Release

Queensgate Shopping Centre – Situation Update

Engineers are continuing their inspection of the Queensgate Shopping Centre and have reported that there is no diminished capacity to the structure of the buildings where the assessments have been completed. Assessments are ongoing and further update to this will be provided in the very near future.

Starting from today tenants will be contacted individually to arrange access to the areas of the Centre that have been given clearance so that they can determine the necessary steps required for them to resume trading. Centre management will work with them to assess any remediation work required and engineers will be available to provide advice as necessary. Once individual retailers have had the opportunity to assess their situation a more certain timetable for re-opening of the centre will be provided.

Remediation work will also be undertaken on parts of the Centre that suffered superficial damage resulting from the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks and this will progress as the Centre reopens.

Stride’s priority has been, and continues to be, the conclusion of a full and thorough inspection by its structural engineers, Beca. Queensgate is the largest enclosed shopping centre in the lower North Island with over 180 tenancies and the scale of the examination is considerable.
