Upper South Island Earthquake Response - 14 November

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the earthquake that hit the upper South Island and Wellington region today. We have been reaching out to our manufacturing members and offer our support if there is anything we can do to help them in this time, say the New Zealand Manufacturers and Exporters Association (NZMEA).

NZMEA Chief Executive Dieter Adam says, “So far at this early stage, it appears that manufacturers in Christchurch have come through today’s severe earthquake and the aftershocks largely unscathed.  We are still waiting to hear from those further North who could be more affected – we hope they and their families are okay and the damage to operations is limited.   

“With the road closures, there may be some ongoing challenges within supply chains, even to less directly impacted areas.  These are times to work together and try ensure everyone can get back to normal as soon as possible. 

“With the Christchurch earthquakes still in recent memory, many of our Canterbury members have a lot of experience dealing with the immediate and longer-term problems in the aftermath of a large earthquake.   If there are any manufacturers effected by today’s event that would like someone to talk to and receive some advice, we can put them in touch with other members who have been through this before.” Said Dieter.
