NZI Safe Driving Programme Wins Innovation Award
NZI’s Safe Driving Rewards Programme was named Innovation of the Year 2016 at last night’s fifth Annual ANZIIF New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards.
“Our Safe Driving Rewards Programme is a world first for the insurance industry, so we are thrilled to win this award.” says Travis Atkinson, Executive General Manager for NZI.
“We’re constantly challenging ourselves on how we can deliver innovative insurance products that leverage new technology and meet the needs of our customers, and our Safer Driving Rewards Programme, along with our entire Fleet Fit initiative, is a great example of this.
“But more importantly it is helping to make New Zealand roads safer and saving lives, and that is something we are really proud to be leading,” says Mr Atkinson.
Safe Driving Rewards Programme supports transport operators and their drivers to be safer on the road by incentivising them to be in the top 25% of EROAD drivers in New Zealand, and then waiving the excess should an accident occur.
The Programme uses telemetric data from the EROAD GPS system installed in trucks to collect Road User Charges, to identify the safest drivers, ranking factors such as harsh braking, rapid acceleration and speeding events.
Mr Atkinson says the Programme is part of Fleet Fit – a leading edge initiative that is making New Zealand roads safer by preventing accidents from occurring.
Fleet Fit also features “Guardian by Seeing Machines” – life saving technology that detects when drivers are fatigued or distracted and sets off an in-cab alarm and seat vibration to alert the driver, while also sending an instant alert to the driver’s transport company.
The awards are hosted annually by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and recognise the highest standards of excellence, professionalism and performance in the insurance industry.
