Winner of VSA's award for journalism excellence announced
Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) was pleased to award its third annual award for excellence in international development journalism at its annual Congress on Saturday, November 5.
The recipient, RNZ International's senior journalist Sally Round, was recognised for her coverage of the aftermath of category 5 Cyclone Winston in Fiji earlier this year.
The judging panel comprised VSA CEO Gill Greer; TVNZ Pacific Correspondent Barbara Dreaver; RNZ Special Correspondent, Māori Affairs Mihi Forbes; and Associate Professor at Massey’s School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, Jim Tully.
The panel were unanimous in awarding Sally, praising her "in-depth, wide-reaching look at how Winston affected Fiji, which brought the impact on its people to life."
Sally will receive a seven-day research trip to Timor-Leste in 2017.
VSA would like to thank our generous sponsors, Orbit Travel, and the judging panel for giving their time and expertise so kindly.
