TUANZ welcomes additional Land Access initiative

TUANZ welcomes additional Land Access initiative

TUANZ welcomes the Commerce Select Committee’s decision to include in the Telecommunications (Property Access and Other Matters) Amendment Bill the proposals put forward on using existing rural electricity infrastructure to roll out fibre further.

“In our submission to the select committee, we stated our support for the proposals put forward by other parties on providing the right for fibre to be added to existing power company assets with a form of deemed consent. This would mean the company would not need to renegotiate the terms of access with each landowner but use existing rights.” said Craig Young, CEO of TUANZ.

“While recognising there are concerns by some parties over this type of approach, our concern has always been to ensure that the rural connectivity experience is the same as it is in urban areas. We encourage all interested parties to read the interim report released by the Committee and submit their views in time for consideration.” Mr Young went on to say.
