Making forestry safer and more productive – Health and safety thought leaders set for summit
Industry safety champions in both New Zealand and Australia have come forward to show their safety leadership by
becoming Principal Partners to the 3rd FIEA Forest Industry Safety Summit. This conference series sold out in 2013 and
2015, and is running again in March 2017 in Rotorua and Melbourne.
“Our principal partners include McFall Fuel in New Zealand and VicForests in Australia. Both are recognised as early
adopters of positive safety practices. Forest company leaders and contractors in our industry will be keen to see what
they've achieved in safety,” says event director John Stulen.
“We’ve got really inspiring and practical speakers who have delivered real change for their companies and clients – the
case studies they will bring are proven to bring results,” added Stulen.
“We’ve also teamed up with the Forest Industry Safety Council (FISC) to organise a workshop as part of the Safety
Summit,” says Stulen. “FISC has some of their own key focus areas. They will be the subject of interactive sessions
designed to interest people in all roles in forestry – from the forest floor to the CEOs.”
Our speaker line up is brimming with practical people in health and safety leadership:
• Cos Bruyn of Downer New Zealand,
• Brionny Hooper of Scion, inaugural winner for young forest scientist of the year,
• Hillary Bennett of Leading Safety Ltd,
• Mavis Mullins of PM Shearing,
• Francis Barton of the Business Leaders Health and Safety Forum.
“Our sessions and speakers are focused on CEO roles, drivers for real culture change and technologies. Often it's a
combination of engaging peoples’ minds and providing seamless safety tools, so we’ve got a bit of both in our
presentations,” added Stulen.
The Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA) is pleased to announce that forestry tree-faller certification expert
Peter Sprout from the Forest Safety Council in BC, Canada has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for the Rotorua leg of
this paradigm-shifting forest safety conference series March 2017. The summit will run in Rotorua at the Distinction
Hotel on 1-2nd March and Bayview Eden Hotel in Melbourne on 7-8th March. For full details of our Forest Industry Safety
