Kiwi favourite Madam Woo heads to Christchurch
Michelin-star chef Josh Emett and business partner Fleur Caulton have confirmed that their acclaimed Malaysian restaurant Madam Woo is set to open in Christchurch in early February 2017.
The new Christchurch restaurant will be the fifth location, with eateries already in Auckland, Dunedin, Hamilton and Queenstown, where the original Madam Woo opened in late 2013.
“We are really excited to bring Madam Woo to Christchurch,” says Fleur Caulton, Co-Owner of Mayfare Group Ltd. “Josh and I have been searching for the right location in Christchurch and believe that we have finally found it, making it the right time for us to have a presence there. I think the vibrant and dynamic dining experience that Madam Woo will provide is something that locals will embrace and enjoy.”
Madam Woo Christchurch will offer the same inspired and energetic mashup of traditional Malaysian hawker food, fresh Kiwi produce and big, bold flavours.
The menu will include dishes such as honey and soy tossed squid, chicken and prawn laksa soup, stir fired pork belly and of course the famous Hawker Roll, a roti Canai style roll topped with a choice of pulled sticky pork with pickled cucumber, percik chicken with toasted coconut or soy sesame eggplant with red chili dressing, a dish Madam Woo is well-known for.
The new Christchurch restaurant will be stylishly designed to reflect the colourful personality of Madam Woo. The décor will contribute to the entertaining, fast and vibrant identity that Madam Woo represents.
“The atmosphere at Madam Woo is nothing short of fun, enjoyable and lively with staff that are friendly and knowledgeable, a menu that is full of flavour, and a drinks list that is extensive. We want guests to leave feeling satisfied both in appetite and experience every time they choose to dine with us.” Says Caulton.
Construction on the new site will start in early November on 181 High Street and once completed will seat around 80 diners.
The Christchurch location will operate seven days a week for lunch and dinner, and will also offer a takeaway service.
