Iconic tourism operator Skyline Queenstown recognised for business excellence
As pioneering tourism company Skyline Queenstown prepares for its 50th anniversary, it has been awarded the 2016 Westpac Supreme Business of the Year, at the prestigious Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards on Saturday evening. It didn’t stop there though, with Skyline also winning ‘Employer of the Year’, ‘Large Business of the Year’ and the ‘Excellence in Tourism, Activities or Events’ awards.
“As a team we are thrilled and very humbled to have won three category awards, and the overall Supreme Award which is an accolade to be proud of. The awards are an acknowledgement of how hard our team works in a diverse and demanding business environment. Every team member has had a part to play in our success regardless of title, position or department. There are a lot of great people working behind the scenes to make this place tick from the kitchen stewards, engineers, reservations, accounts, stores and of course our frontline teams and talented chefs,” Skyline General Manager Lyndon Thomas says.
“There were some really tough categories and the quality of all the finalists were at the highest level which displays what a vibrant business community we have here in Queenstown.”
Skyline Queenstown’s Human Resources & Quality Manager, Sally King is immensely proud to be awarded Westpac Queenstown Chamber’s Employer of the Year. “We have worked hard to develop our people management programmes, integrating our core values into our strategies to recruit, engage and develop employees. We place a huge emphasis on our internal culture, continuously improving team engagement and focusing on how we can develop individuals and provide them with career pathways. This award validates our strong employer brand and our position in the Queenstown employment market.
Skyline is a leisure and entertainment destination for all ages and nationalities. Located on Bob’s Peak and home to one of the most famous views in New Zealand, its world-famous gondola began operating in 1967. The Skyline complex is also home to the Luge operation, several dining options, stargazing, and provides access to world-class mountain bike tracks as well as other tourism activities.
This year, Skyline announced a $100 million gondola development to accommodate Queenstown’s anticipated visitor growth over the next 30 years and improve the overall guest experience.
