New Framework will support Govt’s highest-risk contracts

Media release

26 October 2016

New Framework will support Government’s highest-risk contracts

The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment today launched a critically important tool that will help government agencies manage their most important contracts.

“The Significant Services Contract Framework provides support and guidance for public sector agencies on effectively managing their largest, most important, and highest risk contracts,” says John Ivil, General Manager of New Zealand Government Procurement.

“The tool will provide confidence to both the government and the public that important services are being effectively managed and delivered to New Zealand.”

The work to develop the Framework was directed by Cabinet, following some high profile contract issues in recent years.

“This new Framework will help government agencies manage contracts that are essential to their business objectives, by guiding them through effective management practices; ensuring accountability and oversight; and supporting capability development,” says Mr Ivil.

“The Framework ensures that if there are any issues with a contract, the Senior Managers who need to know will get an early view of this.”

As part of the Framework, agencies will be required to report on their significant service contracts on a six-monthly basis.
