Print industries celebrate the International Print Day

Print industries around the globe take to social media to celebrate the International Print Day

Print, paper and design professionals around the globe are taking part in a 24-hour social media event next week to emphasise to the digital world the industry's love for and dedication to print and paper.

The International Print Day (IPD) is an annual event that encourages those within the print industry to use social media channels, specifically Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, to join the international conversation and help spread the positive story of print.

Deborah Corn, founder of International Print Day, encourages everyone within the print industry to get involved with promoting print as a thriving industry through sharing examples of work online. Social media especially is a great channel to reach new audiences who you may not necessarily engage with on a daily basis and is another way to spread the positive word of the power of print.

"We're encouraging everyone in the print industry, whether commercial printers, print buyers, paper mills, graphic designers, book publishers, marketers and manufacturers to tweet, post, comment, like, and share examples of print or their design work to promote the typically unseen industry among consumers."

The theme for IPD16 is #PrintSmart which relates to sharing educational resources and how important print has become in the digital age. #PrintSmart also relates to educating the public to be smart and consider print in marketing, and encourage apprentices that print is a smart industry to be in.

Ruth Cobb, General Manager for PrintNZ expresses these events as ideal opportunities for members to showcase the excellent work produced every day.

“Every opportunity to show the fantastic array of work that comes from our industry should be welcomed and PrintNZ encourage as many of their members to join into IPD16 to get the word out there. We will use the day to showcase the broad range of work produced by our industry, including some of the winning work from the Pride In Print Awards. IPD16 is also an excellent platform to highlight the effectiveness of combining the print and digital worlds.” says Cobb.

The IPD16 will be held on Wednesday 19 October, 2016.
