indieVenue leaps to Wellington and event hosting gets easier
Hawke’s Bay start up indieVenue, a community of independent venues and their suppliers, opens its services to the Wellington events’ scene well ahead of schedule. The timing couldn’t be better for the capital, as businesses look for Christmas parties with a point of difference, and party planners book summer events.
The site has tested the events market in Hawke’s Bay to see whether people value a go-to website for less-obvious venues. And they do. The website has received enquiries for engagements, weddings and parties, business meetings, strategy workshops and hui, movement classes and a pop up wine tasting (well, it is Hawke’s Bay). After such a fast start, with 120 venues on offer and many more pending, founder Cris Sanders decided to reach out to the Wellington market earlier than planned.
“People are looking for interesting venues with a sense of place,” Cris says. “The spaces I love best are those where there is another main purpose to the venue: a wine cellar, a yacht club, a gallery, a farm. How cool to have your strategic planning away-day in a brewery, where you plan and you brew, and one is a metaphor for the other.”
In addition to its list of unusual venues, indieVenue links to event suppliers to build recommendations through the sector that promote good local talent. If you are hosting an event and need access to a network of contacts, indieVenue is a great place to start.
