Brexit event reassures NZ exporters, says Chamber

The UK will continue to be a key market for New Zealand exporters – that was the main message from a Brexit event held in Wellington today.

The event was hosted by Wellington Chamber of Commerce, Export NZ and the British High Commission to discuss the implications Brexit will have on New Zealand’s relationship with the UK.

The British High Commissioner to New Zealand, the Honourable Jonathan Sinclair, shared insights about the Brexit process, and addressed concerns regarding trade and immigration, saying how a strong, independent UK could benefit New Zealand.

Wellington Chamber Chief Executive, John Milford, says the event provided valuable insight for those trading or looking to trade with the UK and the EU.

“High Commissioner Sinclair did a great job addressing the concerns and questions voiced by representatives of Wellington’s business community.

“I believe most would have come away from the event confident that the UK will continue to be a key market for us.

“The European Union is currently one of our biggest trading partners and New Zealand businesses understandably want to maintain a strong trade relationship with the UK after it leaves the EU in two years’ time.”
