GM of Fisher and Paykel Credit Union recognised at industry awards
AUCKLAND, 21 SEPTEMBER 2016: Murray Brown, General Manager of Fisher & Paykel Credit Union, was honoured with an Individual Recognition Award. The award was presented to Murray at the sector’s annual Gala Awards Dinner hosted by Co-op Money NZ, the industry body representing co-operatively owned credit unions and mutual building societies in New Zealand.
Murray has been the General Manager of Fisher & Paykel Credit Union for 14 years and retires on 21 September 2016. During this time Murray has made significant contributions to Fisher & Paykel Credit Union and the credit union movement in New Zealand.
An industrial credit union, Murray built and led Fisher & Paykel Credit Union to become a selfsustaining organisation. He continued to guide and support the credit union during pivotal periods of its evolution and oversaw the opening of a new credit union branch at Fisher and Paykel Healthcare in 2006.
The Gala Awards Dinner took place on the 17th September 2016 in Auckland.
The Co-op Money NZ Gala Awards Dinner was attended by over 130 credit union board members, managers and staff from all over New Zealand. The Gala Awards Dinner was preceded by the Co-op Money NZ 2016 Annual Conference, which brought together credit union and mutual building society board members and senior managers to discuss the future of the credit union sector and how to capitalise on market opportunities.
Independently owned by their members for their members, credit unions and mutual building societies provide a wide range of financial services, like savings accounts, loans and insurance. Profits made by these organisations are returned to the members in a combination of ways, such as fairer fees and interest rates with community involvement.
