Press Release 20th September 2016
First Business Start Up programme designed for migrants launched.
Massey University’s start up incubator ecentre and Aspire2 Group’s Ntec Tertiary Group have joined forces to give new entrepreneurs and migrants the support they need to develop and establish their first business in New Zealand.
For the first time, in a programme designed specifically for them, these entrepreneurs will be able to access a programme designed to help them realise their business goals.
The Acting CEO of ecentre, Dorian Scott says, “This programme will build important skills in this crucial sector of our economy. We have been helping launch New Zealand companies from start-up stage for the last 12 years and for the last 5 years through our Sprint Programme and this programme developed from the strong relationship we have established with Ntec Tertiary Group – it leverages on Ntec’s focus on the international student market and our migrant community.”
Clare Bradley, CEO, Aspire2 International, a division of Aspire2 Group, which owns Ntec Tertiary Group says “There are big challenges for those new to New Zealand who want to set up business here. This programme will speed the process for them and help them more quickly build the skills and understanding they need to succeed in New Zealand.”
The first programme runs for 4 weeks from the first Wednesday in November – more information about the programme and entry requirements can be found [here].
Additional Information
The programme is looking for people like this:
• Do you need help to bring your business idea to market?
• Have you recently moved to New Zealand and want to make connections and build your network in the startup and innovation community?
• Do you want to accelerate your business and grow customers in New Zealand and overseas?
• Are you starting a business in New Zealand for the first time?
• Are you looking for investment for your business?
The programme is specifically designed to provide participants with:
• The tools and knowledge to evaluate business ideas, develop and test business models and create a compelling investment proposition
• The connections into the local startup and innovation eco-system
• The winning pitch for investment
The Programme:
The programme is run with a group of entrepreneurs interacting and supporting each other. There is a mix of tutorials to learn and workshops to put tools into practice on your own business or idea.
The programme teaches you a new approach of validating a market opportunity and creating a sustainable business model. It builds your entrepreneurial capability which you can repeatedly apply to your own business ideas or the business you work for. It reduces the risks you take, saving you time, effort and money. Many people make the mistake of developing their product before they have properly validated the market. If this is you it is not too late to do this programme.
The programme is customised for the group of participants and is based on a successful startup programme, Sprint, that has been running at the Massey University ecentre for 5 years.
Programme Leaders:
The New Enterprise Centre (NeC) is a collaborative joint venture involving Massey University's business incubator and accelerator, ecentre, and Aspire2's, Ntec Tertiary Group. The aim of NeC is to develop the entrepreneurial skills of people new to New Zealand in order to create successful new enterprises in local and global markets.
The facilitators are experts in applying the latest tools to reduce risk and accelerate success in business startups.
