NZISM - New National Manager Announced

Media Release 8th September 2016

New Zealand Institute of Safety Management - New National Manager Announced

At its September AGM the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) elected Greg Dearsly as the new National Manager. Greg replaces Tony Rigg who has held the role for the last four years.

Greg has been an active member of NZISM since 2001, including time as the Auckland branch manager and as a member of the NZISM Grading committee. He also served on the OHSIG Committee and is part of the current HASANZ leadership team.

“I look forward to leading NZISM in this next era and would like to thank Tony Rigg for his significant contributions over the last 4 years. We are now finalising our first formal strategy for NZISM and it is focussed on delivering clear benefits to our members and stakeholders. This includes embedding our accreditation scheme, stakeholder relations and NZISM sustainability incorporating financial performance, operational systems and organisational structure” said Greg Dearsly.

“It’s an exciting time for NZISM and I look forward to sharing more details on the new strategy with members in my regular monthly blogs”.

NZISM, with support from WorkSafe NZ, has recently launched an accreditation scheme to provide a recognised professional development pathway for generalist health and safety practitioners - this helps provide assurance to business that the health and safety practitioners delivering advice in New Zealand workplaces are competent to do so. The scheme was developed in response to key recommendations in the April 2013 Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and Safety Report.

The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management represents the interests of generalist Health and Safety Practitioners and Professionals who work in private or public sector organisations in a multitude of industries throughout New Zealand.
