National Win for ‘Little Southland Bank with Big Ambitions’

National Win for ‘Little Southland Bank with Big Ambitions’

SBS Bank was named Winner in the ‘Financial and Banking’ category at the 25th annual TVNZ NZ Marketing Awards held Thursday 1 September (http://www.everythingmarketing.co.nz/).

The TVNZ NZ Marketing Awards 2016 overview state they “recognise and celebrate the skills, expertise and work of marketing professionals that deliver great business outcomes for the organisations they represent and that provide the thought leadership for our industry.”

SBS entered as the ‘little bank with big ambitions’, reflecting its journey of a new company vision and strategy. Launched in November 2015, the strategy was to modernise SBS through a rebrand and simplification of its products to achieve growth and recognition outside of its traditional Southland stronghold.

SBS General Manager Strategy and Marketing, Phil Jamieson said, “This is an extraordinary achievement given the record number of entries this year, and the size of our team, budget and resources compared to much larger organisations.”

He added, “Our rebrand launch in November 2015 has been immensely successful towards SBS becoming a modern, distinctive, vibrant challenger bank which celebrates its proud Southland roots, while achieving growth in key markets like Auckland.

“While it’s outstanding to be recognised through this award, ultimately it has been the positive response and support from our Members and the public to our brand refresh which is the real test of success.”

Mr Jamieson noted, “We also recognise the close partnerships developed with specialist suppliers who helped us successfully deliver this strategy.”

SBS Bank reported a solid result for the financial year ending 31 March 2016 with an operating surplus of $27.7 million, a 6% increase on the $26.1 million reported last year.
