Kiwi Dads Getting Nothing for Father’s Day – But Eight in 10 Secretly Hope Their Family Will Make a Fuss
According to a survey run by The Coffee Club New Zealand, more than half of Kiwi dads won’t get anything this Father’s
Day, and almost three-quarters will only get a card. However, eight in ten dads are secretly hoping that their children
will make a fuss of them on Sunday.
The research revealed that one in ten dads are disappointed when their children don’t make an effort on Father’s Day,
with many wishing that they were given more attention. Dads shared that socks were unanimously the worst present they
received on Father’s Day. A box of melted chocolates, a romance novel, Countdown vouchers, and a shirt that didn’t fit
also appeared in the results.
A card handmade by their children topped the list of favourite gifts, closely followed by spending time with the family.
Dads also mentioned fishing vouchers, Star Wars Lego, a new grandchild, DIY tools, a cool t-shirt, and a pack of beer.
One dad highlighted a day of peace and quiet as being his favourite perk. Almost three-quarters of dads (75%) also said
that they would like to go out for a meal with the family on Father’s Day, rather than cooking at home.
“It’s clear that dads might appear as if they don’t care about Father’s Day, but plenty of them would love to be spoiled
by their family,” says The Coffee Club Director, Andy Lucas. “It would be great if Kiwis could push the boat out a bit
more this Sunday, and show their dads just how much they mean to them.”
“Whether its vouchers for his favourite hobby, BBQ accessories, or even just lunch or dinner out with the family, dads
will appreciate the effort – and certainly won’t miss the socks.”

be loaded with any amount between $10 and $999.
The Coffee Club Father’s Day survey was conducted during August 2016, and involved questioning an audience of 653 New
Zealand men.
