Whittaker’s tips its hat to history with K Bar chocolate
Whittaker’s latest limited edition creation is a K Bar Block range, which combines its quality chocolate with lime, pineapple or raspberry K Bar flavoured filling. For Wellington-based Chocolate Lovers the launch is extra sweet with the opening of ‘The K Bar’, in upper Cuba Street.
“K Bars have become a bit of a kiwi classic since we first started making them back in the 1950s, so we’ve been working on a way of creating a K Bar chocolate for some time. Whittaker’s fans have also recently been calling for us to make a K Bar chocolate, so we’re really pleased to now be able to answer that call,” said Holly Whittaker, Whittaker’s Marketing Manager.
The limited edition Whittaker’s K Bar 250g Blocks are a filled product that’s true to the original K Bar flavours, without the jaw-breaking effect! They are available in three different flavours:
• K Bar Lime: Creamy Milk chocolate with lime K Bar filling
• K Bar Pineapple: Creamy Milk chocolate with pineapple K Bar filling
• K Bar Raspberry: 72% Dark Ghana Chocolate with raspberry K Bar filling.
To add to the nostalgia that the K Bar Block range is all about, Whittaker’s has also created ‘The K Bar’, a pop-up in the style of a 1950s milk bar. It will offer Whittaker’s chocolate and K Bar-themed food and beverages, such as K Bar-themed milk shakes, truffles and cupcakes, and Peanut Slab cookies. It will also sell original K Bars and the new K Bar chocolate, as well as some limited edition merchandise.
The shop will officially open to the public for 10 days from Saturday 20 August, but eight Chocolate Lovers had a sneak peek and a taste of the new Whittaker’s K Bar blocks today.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever had a physical ‘shop front’, and we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to connect this directly with Whittaker’s Chocolate Lovers, complementing the engagement we already have with them daily over social media. Their enthusiasm helps fuel our ongoing passion for chocolate,” said Holly Whittaker.
‘The K Bar’ pop-up is located at 268 Cuba Street and will be open daily from Saturday 20 August to Monday 29 August from 10am to 6pm, with extended opening hours to 9pm on Saturday 20, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August. Whittaker’s Chocolate Lovers who can’t make it in person to the pop-up in Wellington can get in on the action by visiting Whittaker’s Facebook page and Snapchat (whittakersnz).
Whittaker’s K Bar Blocks will be in stores nationwide for a limited time from Monday 22 August. The limited edition merchandise will be sold at ‘The K Bar’ pop up.
As with all Whittaker’s products, the new K Bar Block range is produced in Whittaker’s Porirua factory using the finest ingredients and is quality-assured through its signature bean to bar process.
“We hope Whittaker’s Chocolate Lovers will love the new K Bar Blocks as much as we do, and we’re really looking forward to hearing what they think of it,” said Holly Whittaker.
